Huge thank you to SNYPZ TV for the classic broadcast last night. The game was pegged as a close battle with the 49ers having just a 1% edge in victory prediction. While game started out as a potential blow out, it ended up being much closer as the Lions fought to get back in the game. Here is 5 things we learned from last nights Game of the Week:
- D’Andre Swift is the Lions offense, Swift carried the ball 16 times even while trailing by 20 points. Swift also led all receivers in Detroit with 7 catches and was targeted 11 times through the air.
- Antonio Hanks is the real deal for the 49ers, the rookie cornerback must have med his father extra proud as he watched his son return two interceptions for touchdowns. Hanks accounted for 118 in interception yardage which was more yards than everyone else on both sides of the field that was not playing quarterback.
- Trey Lance and Jared Goff was both coaches worst nightmare, combining for 5 interceptions between the two – Goff quickly put his team in the hole 14-0 and the only touchdowns score by the 49ers were because of his 2 interceptions. Lance on the flip side let the Lions back into the game with his 2 interceptions and at one point the Lions trailed by just 6 points.
- The 49ers run defense is for real, Swift was expected to have a big day running the football but the Niner defense kept him in check most of the game. Swift did average 4.2 yards per carry but Fred Warner and company kept him under the 100 yard rushing bar.
- The Lions need to get their receivers open downfield, the Lions have two really solid weapons in Amon-Ra St. Brown and T.J. Hochenson. Last night the duo combined for just 3 receptions for 15 yards. Goff needs to do a better job of allowing these two to get open and move the football downfield more. Watch for the duo to have a much better game in week 2 verse the Packers.
