One of the big matchup’s in tonight’s Soden Bowl Network game featuring the 8-1 Saints and 8-1 Jets will be All World receiver Michael Thomas covered by defensive back Avonte Maddox. The crew at The Rundown dive into the numbers to see who has the advantage tonight.
Michael Thomas through 10 weeks (9 games) has 28 receptions for 366 yards and 4 touchdowns. That is 3.1 catches per game, 40.66 yards receiving per game. Thomas may not have Pro Bowl numbers at this point of the season – but he has put up good numbers verse good teams this year including a 7 catch 120 yard performance verse the Eagles 2 weeks ago.
Avonte Maddox at 5’9″ may have problems playing a physical game verse Thomas. Maddox is clearly a man coverage oriented player. Maddox has a 96 acceleration rating, he could attempt to play a press coverage style verse Thomas and if Thomas gets the best, Maddox could close ground quickly. Avonte Maddox has 6 interceptions which ranks 3rd in the league, he will make a play on the football if it’s located anywhere near his catch/interception radius.
